Why the cylinder decides the price

The part itself ranges widely. A basic 6-pin euro cylinder with no TS007 rating listed sells for £13.99 at Screwfix. A cylinder with the top UK ratings — TS007 3-star and Sold Secure SS312 Diamond — typically retails at around £40–£75 before any labour: for example, an Avocet ABS Quantum thumbturn was listed at £54.00 and an Ultion 3 Star Plus double at £54.00 at the time of writing. What a fair quote should include

The cylinder brand and model, and its rating (TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond).
Fitting, sized to your door (a cylinder that sticks out is easier to snap).
How many keys are included.
Whether there is a callout fee, and whether labour is hourly.
A written invoice you can show an insurer, landlord or agent.

Why do some locksmiths quote £60 and others £200?

The difference is usually the cylinder and the time of day. A basic unrated 6-pin cylinder can retail for about £14; a TS007 3-star, Sold Secure Diamond cylinder typically costs £40–£75 on its own before labour. Hourly labour, callout fees and out-of-hours rates then vary by firm. Always ask which cylinder, which rating, and the total price in writing before work starts.

Is an emergency locksmith more expensive?
