Why we fit Avocet ABS (and what that doesn’t mean)
We fit one product so that every door we touch gets the same tested cylinder, the same key-registration card and the same guarantee — and so we can carry the full range of sizes on every visit. We chose Avocet ABS for its Diamond and 3-star ratings, Secured by Design accreditation and the ABS Master’s listing against the 2024 version of TS007. That is a standardisation choice. It does not mean the other cylinders in this table are unsafe: on the published ratings, they are peers. Read our full reasoning.
How to read a cylinder listing
- “3-star” must be on the cylinder itself. A 1-star cylinder is only 3-star when paired with a 2-star handle — see TS007 explained.
- Look for the year. TS007-1:2024 and SS312 Diamond 2024 add freezing and gluing attacks; older listings show TS007:2014.
- Check the exact model. Brands sell several ranges; not every cylinder a brand makes carries Diamond.
- Size matters as much as rating. A cylinder that sticks out more than a few millimetres past the handle is easier to grip and snap.
- Read guarantee terms. Snap guarantees are manufacturer offers with conditions (registration, correct fitting, proof of purchase).

Anti-snap cylinder questions
What is the best anti-snap lock in the UK?
There is no single best. Look for a euro cylinder that is BSI Kitemarked to TS007 3-star and graded Sold Secure SS312 Diamond — the two top UK grades. Avocet ABS, Brisant Ultion, Yale Platinum Ultra, Mul-T-Lock Break-Secure and UAP Kinetica all hold both. After that, choose on fit for your door, key control, guarantee terms and price.
Is Avocet ABS better than Ultion?
Both are TS007 3-star, Sold Secure Diamond and Secured by Design accredited, so on the published ratings they are peers. The differences are in design and the manufacturer's offer: Ultion advertises a £5,000 security guarantee; Avocet advertises a £2,000 snap guarantee for ABS Master. We fit Avocet ABS so every door we do gets the same product and key system — not because Ultion is inadequate.
Does 3-star mean the same as Sold Secure Diamond?
They are separate tests run by different bodies — TS007 by BSI (Kitemark) and SS312 by Sold Secure, now run by the Master Locksmiths Association. The Master Locksmiths Association says SS312 Diamond is treated as equivalent to TS007 3-star for Building Regulations purposes. Cylinders holding both have passed both.
What changed in 2024?
Both standards were revised in 2024 to add attacks such as freezing and gluing — TS007-1:2024 and SS312 Diamond 2024 — and industry reporting says the new versions take full effect from January 2027. Some products are already listed against the 2024 versions (for example Avocet ABS Master and Yale Platinum Ultra); others still show the earlier versions. Check the listing for the year.
